Through our newsletters and website, we continue to provide you with relevant information regarding not only our practice, but the issues that are directly affecting the health and well-being of women today. We are currently offering a broad range of services in our office. These services include, but are not limited to, preconception counseling, low risk and high-risk obstetrics, genetic testing, general gynecology, OB/GYN ultrasound, colposcopy, LEEP, hysteroscopic sterilizations, IUD placement and contraceptive management, treatment of heavy periods with endometrial ablations and hereditary cancer risk reduction counseling and menopause counseling. We also offer nutrition/diet counseling.

We hope this will provide you with valuable information you can use to make informed decisions regarding your health and the health of the women in your life. We are currently accepting new patients and appreciate your referrals.

 

Please Welcome Dr. Juliana Sung to Our Practice

Dr. Juliana Sung

Dr. Sung has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center for the past 4 years, where she completed her residency training. During her residency Dr. Sung was a recipient of the excellence in teaching award chosen by fellow residents and medical students. She also received the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Resident award for excellence in Obstetrics. She has received extensive training in minimally invasive surgery, including Robotic and Laparoscopic approaches to Gynecologic surgery. 

Dr. Sung is an avid researcher and is currently involved in studying and understanding the urinary microbiome in pregnant women and how it may be associated with pre-term labor. She is board eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology and is a Health Systems Clinician at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.

 

Dr. Sung’s special interests include high risk obstetrics and comprehensive prenatal care, minimally invasive surgery, contraceptive counseling and adolescent gynecology.  She is passionate about helping women in both joyous and difficult times in their lives.  Dr. Sung is married, has two dogs and lives in Chicago. When not busy caring for patients, Dr. Sung enjoys traveling, running, cooking, and photography.

Dr Kamel continues to maintain expertise in the field of Menopause and has been awarded the credential of Certified Menopause Practitioner for over 12 years by the Northern American Menopause Society. She enjoys helping patients understand and clarify The Myths of Menopause, while promoting a healthy lifestyle and improved quality of life for women throughout their lifespan. With her guidance, patients are able to understand the most current evidence based options to navigate Menopause. Dr Kamel welcomes new patients and consults for Menopause Health.

Dr. Kamel has spent many years dedicated to breast cancer awareness and she is honored to be receiving an award from The Susan G. Komen Chicago organization on October 21st at the Westin River North. Please consider joining us at this important 20th Anniversary celebration. The gala will raise money for grants and assistance to help women from all backgrounds have a fighting chance to survive this devastating disease. There is a huge disparity in access to high quality breast health services and treatment in Chicagoland.

 
 
Dr. Anita Levin

Dr. Anita Levin will be attending the upcoming annual Northern American Menopause society meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Dr Levin has over 25 years of experience and she welcomes new patients and consults for Menopause Health.

 

Dr. Levin’s practice includes both obstetrics and gynecology, with a special interest in high-risk obstetrics, gynecologic surgery and preventive care for the women in all stages of life. Having herself experienced several pregnancies in later life, she particularly enjoys working with women in their mid 30’s and 40’s who may have medical issues with their pregnancies that require special monitoring.

In her free time Dr. Anita Levin and her husband John Rafkin are active supporters of the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust.  The Trust’s mission is to engage, educate and inspire the public through the interpretation of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design legacy and preservation of his original sites for future generations. 

The Trust’s activities include tours, workshops, teacher training, student internships, school outreach, family activities, multi-media programs, a restoration resource center, library/archive, a membership program, a travel program, and multi-channel merchandising.

Prenatal Classes

This summer we launched our newly created curriculum for prenatal classes. The classes are very popular and well received by our patients. We cover topics such as Pregnancy & Basic Nutrition, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum Care & Breastfeeding and Newborn Care. Future classes will be held at The Women’s Group of Northwestern office in our education room. The classes are small and intimate allowing discussion and lots of questions.

Barbara Hartnett

Barbara Hartnett, RNC, MS, is a certified nurse practitioner. She has 20 years of experience providing mom’s with breast feeding support. 

Ashley Gier

Ashley Gier, MSN, WHNP is a certified nurse practitioner in Women’s Health. Ashley is trained to provide complete obstetric and gynecological services including contraceptive counseling.

Lauren Dowd

Lauren Dowd, MSN, FNP-BC is a certified Nurse Practitioner in Family Health and she is also a certified breast feeding educator. 

Laura Frese

Laura Frese, MMS, PA-C, RD is a certified physician assistant and a registered dietician. She provides assistance in developing a customized nutritional plan that is beneficial to mom and the new baby.

Comfort & Convenience: In Office Procedures

The Women’s Group of Northwestern performs several minor surgical procedures in the comfort of our office. This saves patients time, cost, and the need for a general anesthetic. The procedures we perform in the office are minor, requiring local anesthesia, or IV sedation.

These procedures include:

  • Endometrial Ablation
  • MyoSure - removal of polyps
  • Hysteroscopy – Diagnostic & Therapeutic
  • Essure – Sterilization
  • Hymenectomy
