Paying for your Visit
We strive to make your visit as smooth as possible. Here’s what you need to know about our fees:
Payment at Time of Visit: Fees are payable at the time of your office visit unless other arrangements have been made in advance. All copays, deductibles, and/or coinsurances will be collected at the time of service. We accept all major credit cards.
Telephone Consultations: Please be advised that some telephone consultation calls for medical management issues, whether after business hours or during business hours, may incur a service fee.
Cancellation Policy: Appointments not canceled with at least 24 hours’ notice are subject to a fee. Please call our office for more information.
Insurance Participation: We participate in many managed care plans and preferred provider plans. If you are a beneficiary or member of a plan with which we do not participate, your paid receipt will provide a detailed statement of services, charges, and diagnoses, enabling you to file a claim with your insurance carrier for personal reimbursement.
Our office does not participate with Medicare.
Surgery Coordination: If you require surgery, our surgery coordinator will contact you to discuss your insurance coverage in advance of your procedure. A deposit may be required prior to your procedure.
Patient Responsibility: As a patient receiving services in our care, regardless of your health insurance plan coverage, you are fully responsible for all non-covered services, copays, and deductibles.
Questions and Concerns: Our trained staff members are available to answer any questions regarding your insurance coverage or our fee schedule. Please do not hesitate to discuss your concerns with us.
Financial Review: We encourage you to contact our Business Office representatives prior to any office procedure or outpatient surgery to review your financial obligations and insurance coverage.
Insurance and Your Obstetrical Care
We are dedicated to assisting you with the billing of our charges for your obstetrical care and delivery to your insurance carrier. It’s important to understand your insurance benefits, as coverage can vary significantly between carriers.
Obstetrical Coordinator: Our Obstetrical Coordinator will meet with you early in your pregnancy to explain the charges and the global billing process.
Global Obstetrical Fee: If we provide your complete care and delivery, a “global obstetrical fee” will be charged after delivery. This fee encompasses:
Your 14 routine visits to the doctor during your pregnancy
Charges for the delivery of your baby
Your routine postpartum visit
Any additional visits beyond the 14 included will be billed to your insurance company, and you will be responsible for those charges.
Separate Billing: The hospital and anesthesiologist will bill their charges separately to you and/or your insurance carrier. Additional services we provide, such as ultrasounds, lab tests, non-stress tests, and amniocentesis, are also charged separately and are not included in the global fee.
Changes in Coverage: If you change insurance carriers or healthcare providers during your pregnancy, we will have to bill by itemized services performed, rather than applying the global fee.
Medical Necessity for Ultrasounds: Please note that ultrasounds that are billable to your insurance company must be performed for medically necessary reasons.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our OB Coordinator at 312.440.3810 or any billing representative.
Athena (Billing)
Our uses Athena for billing. Athena supports e-statements, which allows you to receive a secure electronic statement via email or text, making it easier than ever to manage your medical bills.
• Secure Payments: With e-statements, you can pay your outstanding balance through private, secure communication.
• Eco-Friendly Option: By choosing e-statements, you can help our environment “GO GREEN” and reduce paper waste.
Please indicate your preference for e-statements during your next visit, and enjoy the convenience of managing your medical billing effortlessly!
FAQs
-
Global billing is most common in obstetrical (OB) care, but can also apply to other non-OB services. It is a billing method used by most insurance companies which includes office visits related to pregnancy, physician’s charge for delivery and one six week postpartum visit. The “Global Charge” is billed to your insurance by our office at the time of delivery and the hospital will bill separately. Anything above and beyond your antepartum visits and delivery including, but not limited to ultrasounds, blood draws, sick visits, lab and pathology services, fetal non-stress tests, amniocentesis, etc will be billed outside of global and deductibles and/or co-ins may apply.
Global billing applies to all pregnancies when you have the same insurance throughout the entire pregnancy and when you see only WGNW providers throughout the entire pregnancy. If you have changes in insurance coverage or if you transfer care to or from our office, global billing no longer applies.

All patients are required to pay an OB deposit. The OB deposit is due in full upon receipt of the formalized financial plan, or you may set up a payment plan at the time of receipt of the financial plan. After you deliver, the office will bill your insurance for the physician’s delivery charge. Whatever amount your insurance does not pay, we will use your deposit to pay off your account and then refund any necessary balance.
